You probably have heard it before and chances are that if you are reading this you tend to take care of other people's needs before your own. Many of us have a hard time saying no to the people we love and putting ourselves before others. Truth is there is no way around it. It is important to make sure your needs are met before you concern your kind butt with what others may or may not need from you. That is that. Deal with it.

There are many reasons why it is good or may I say necessary to put yourself first. Here are some of those reasons so that maybe I can deter you from running yourself down by giving what you don't have!
If they love you, they'll love you loving you! Get it? The people that really care about you will not take offense to you catering to your own needs before you come running to cater to theirs. On the contrary, they will appreciate you as someone that has her priorities straight and isn't afraid to love herself.
You simply can't give what you don't have. Okay. Can I make that any clearer my love! If you don't find time and/will to treat yourself, how in the world could you do that for another person? Take care of you. Replenish your energy and watch how much better you get at being there for all those around that need you.
You can change and save no one but YOU.
Sometimes we invest so much time and energy helping others to become the best we think they can be, while neglecting our own needs. What really stinks about this is that even tho you can influence or motivate someone. You really can't change or put in the work for anyone other than yourself!
So now that we got that out the way. Let me share some ways I treat and pamper myself to make sure I have all the energy I need to care for all my darlings around. Now, I suggest you think about pampering yourself as the way you think about eating or sleeping. It's not a luxury but a necessity. Some things just gotta be taken care of ya know? ;)
Here are my top ideas on how to put yourself first.
1. Take a yoga class.
This is an amazing option to pampering yourself because it's really personal and forces you to be present and only be with yourself. I personally started looking around in my area to try some yoga once to twice per week as part of my health and fitness routine! Here are some websites that could help you find a great class near you:
Yelp. My personal fave!
Yoga Finder is great for people outside the US but depends on the country. You'll find US classes too.
Yoga Class Near You allows to search by location, type, style and day!
Google the most common and probably most well rounded results.
2. Read something fictional or watch 30 minutes of a show you love.
Yoga might not be your cup of tea but I am sure that you could sit tight and let your mind wander with a fictional book or TV show you enjoy. The point is to let your worries melt away and relax. This alone will take care of you. The options are overwhelming here. For a real life book just go to your nearest Barnes & Noble For audio books I recommend audible they even have a thirty day free trial. And for watching of course Netflix, YouTube, Hulu or even Amazon Prime! YouTube is free and all others have free trial offers. Give them a try and see what works for you.
3. Schedule dates with yourself.
I love this one! You know how you write all important things on your calendar and sometimes even set a reminder? Well, that is exactly what you'll do here but instead of meeting someone else you will take yourself out to do something you love. I love going to the movies by myself for example. Or how about a facial or a massage? There are countless things you could do! Here's an article with more great ideas!
4. Set a budget and go look for bargains at your favorite shop.
Now notice how I said SET A BUDGET! Lol. We can't find solutions by creating other problems like debt. Ay ay ay no gracias! And this could be a budget as small as $5-$10 and trust me if you go to the sales department at many stores you will sure find a little something you really like. The other rule besides setting a budget is that YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO BUY FOR YOURSELF! Come on guys I know. You would probably end up buying something for someone else or for the house and that would not be considered 'treating yourself, would it now? These stores always have good deals going on online and at their locations (H&M, Target, Marshalls, Burlington, Bath & Body Works, Anthropology)
Okay don't freak out now. This doesn't necessarily mean what you are used to seeing and reading about. You know those deep meditation practices. Although if you could that's awesome! I am still learning. Meditation is as simple as sitting still and concentrating on one thing for the purpose of relaxation. Here's a very affordable Nook book I recently found on B&N. Great for beginners!
6. Go to your favorite coffee shop and unplug.
I usually find visit my local Barnes & Noble, Starbucks and lately Caffe Bene has also been part of my 'me time' rituals. These places are not only for quiet working but also for watching whatever you want. Just bring your headphones and remember not to put them too load so you don't disturb others. You can also read or just sit and write while you drink a nice cup of coffee or tea or both. Hey, I don't judge, lol. I linked all the store finders for you. So just click and find your new local favorite chill place.
7. Blast the music and go for a drive.
This is so relaxing! Even tho I didn't drive for a while (city life!) I now do again and I love just blasting my favorite tunes and driving for a bit. It's a great way to get rid of stress or a cluttered mind. Just make sure you don't do it during rush hour time. That would not be too pleasant! My most used music apps are Spotify and Pandora.
I hope these ideas encourage you to spend some quality time with yourself. Is there anything you do to relax and take care of you that I forgot to mention? Do any of these sound like a good idea to try or have you tried any? Leave your comment below! I'd love to hear what you have to say!
Thanks for reading. See you soon darling. Now go. Do you, boo!
